On Tuesday, President Trump spoke with Newsmax over the phone in response to an allegation that Milley had called China behind his back.
According to Bob Woodward’s new book “Peril,” Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned China in a covert phone call that if the US ever attacked, he would give advance warning.

According to a new book by Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward and national political editor Robert Costa, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark A. Milley, assured his Chinese counterpart, Gen. Li Zuocheng of the PLA, in two secret phone calls (Oct. 20 and Jan. 8) that the US would not strike.
On Tuesday, Trump reacted to the news by saying that if it’s real, it’s treason.
“First and foremost, if it is true, which is difficult to believe, that he would have phoned China and done these things and was willing to inform them of a strike or an attack ahead of time, that is treason!” Trump stated his opinion. “Number two, it’s completely ridiculous…for him to suggest that I would consider attacking China — I believe he’s just trying to get out of his inept retreat from Afghanistan, where our people were slaughtered and we left $85 billion in equipment.”
“For him to claim I was going to attack China is the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever heard — and everyone knows it,” Trump continued.
Because he believes Woodward is a sleaze, Trump questioned if there is a recording of Milley talking to China.
