Americans are increasingly distrusting the media sources they used to rely on unquestionably to keep them informed, but this is the fault of the media institutions themselves, not the people who distrust them.
After eight years of sycophantic coverage of Barack Obama, many Americans, particularly conservatives, had serious questions about the integrity of many in the “mainstream media.” However, after four years of Donald Trump, a large majority of Americans now see the media for what it is: a dishonest slew of rabid Democrats serving as the party’s propaganda arm.

According to a new poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports, one of the country’s most reputable pollsters, 58 percent of respondents agreed wholeheartedly or partially with the following statement: “Are you in agreement or disagreement with the following statement: ‘The media is definitely the enemy of the people?’”
John Nolte of Breitbart News joked, “Which means 42 percent of Americans are ignorant.”
Yes, the comments were partisan, he continued, but that doesn’t mean the people who gave them were wrong:
Additional questions in the same poll (of 1,000 potential voters done between July 7-8) are just as damaging, if not more so, to the fake media.
“Are you confident in the political news you’re receiving?” Only 37% of those polled replied yes, while 43% of those polled said no. Only 20% of those polled were unsure.
When the same question was asked of Republicans, only 26% said they trusted the news media, while 58 percent said no.
Surprisingly, just 56% of Democrats responded yes to the proposal. While this is a majority, it is a little one, indicating that, despite the media’s left-leaning bias and eagerness to tell Democrats what they want to hear, only 56% of Democrats believe what they hear. Although only 26% of people stated they don’t trust the media, 18% said they aren’t sure.
Now, this survey was released just days after Lauren Wolfe, a fired New York Times associate editor, admitted in a Substack piece that was eventually published by Washington Monthly that she is a biased leftist whose political leanings not only inform who she interviews for stories but also which stories she covers.
“Angry people have come out of their hidey-holes to yell at me since I was sacked from The New York Times at the end of January, no matter what I publish or say about journalism online. They accuse me of being biased… that all journalists are corrupt, and that I am an excellent example of why no one can trust anything we in the media say,” Wolfe
“So, I’d like to discuss a little bit about bias in journalism—and its implied opposite, objectivity. She went on to say, “They are intimately intertwined.”
“I’ve always believed that being honest about my views on the problems I cover, which have for a long time been war and international human rights, is preferable. And, certainly, I frequently write with a goal in mind—to effect change,” Wolfe added.
“So, yeah, I am biased, and I am aware of it when it comes to certain subjects—particularly when it comes to criminality reporting. “However, I don’t think that’s a negative thing,” she wrote.
