SCANDAL: Democratic Senator Breaks with Pelosi

According to a Democratic senator who is fighting back against the call for a Democrat-dominated commission by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, an investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol incursion with a political bent will not provide the country with the closure it wants.

According to CNN, “I think it is important that we have a balanced January 6 committee,” said Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware.

In her own terms, The Hill wrote, Pelosi has called for “an outside, impartial 9/11-type Commission.”

The commission will “investigate and report on the evidence and causes of the domestic terrorist attack on the United States Capitol Complex on January 6, 2021,” she said.

In addition, according to Pelosi, it will investigate everything else “relevant to the interference with the peaceful transition of power, including facts and causes related to the preparedness and reaction of the Capitol Police of the United States and other federal, state, and local law enforcement in the National Capitol Area.”

For each branch of Congress, Pelosi needs two representatives from each party, meaning four Democratic appointees and four Republican ones will be on the council. But there, the balanced method stops.

Pelosi requires the chair and two representatives to be chosen by President Joe Biden, allowing Democratic appointees a vote of seven to four.

Coons told CNN that members of the commission should be “people who are not politically motivated about how they get to the bottom of this,” not those presently in public office or holding hopes for it.

The Democratic senator said that “both the incidents that led to the Capitol riot and this unfounded theory that [former President Donald] Trump won the presidency” should be investigated by the commission.

“It’s really necessary. It’s one of the main ways for us to come together as a country.

In this inquiry, Coons said steering clear of partisanship would enforce the campaign rallying cry of solidarity by Biden.

Joe Biden ran to unify our country and to unify our nation, the ways we just didn’t trust each other must be laid bare. Joe Biden was legitimately elected President of the United States, and we need to assist the citizens of the United States to recognize that fact,’ said the senator.

If the commission is to rise above partisanship, Coons said, it must command respect from every section of the political spectrum.

Part of why it was so popular was that it was even, it was balanced, and it was driven by people who were well-respected and well-regarded, who had a reputation for working across the aisle,” he said, “the 9/11 commission leaders said.

According to CBS News, Republican Rep. Rodney Davis of Illinois has called for a 10-member commission evenly divided between Republican and Democratic appointees.

The Hill announced that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell also opposes Pelosi’s proposal.

Via a new committee, the Speaker of the House is seeking even further inquiries. She cites the 9/11 Commission’s precedent. But,” McConnell said in a Senate floor speech on Wednesday, her draft bill fails to follow the precedent in key ways.”

Speaker Pelosi began this time by proposing a commission that, by nature, would be partisan. Seven Democratic nominations, only four for Republicans.

He would support a commission that looked at the wide spectrum of political aggression, McConnell suggested.

“If Congress is going to attempt a wider study of toxic political violence in this nation… then in that case, we should not have artificial cherry-picking that does and does not warrant oversight of terrible conduct,” McConnell said.

“We could do something narrow that looks at the Capitol, or we could probably do something wider to explore the full extent of this country’s political violence issue.”
