Putin’s administration threatened to slap devastating fines on Facebook if the social media giant failed to remove information that had been prohibited in Russia on Thursday.
The announcement comes just days after Putin threatened to penalize YouTube for banning independent content.

Roskomnadzor, Russia’s technology, and telecommunications regulator told Reuters that government officers would be dispatched to Facebook’s offices to impose the penalty.
According to Dailycaller.com, Russia labeled groups related to dissident and Vladimir Putin critic Alexei Navalny as “extremist” in June, banned Navalny-affiliated political parties, and confiscating the bank accounts of his supporters. Navalny is presently serving in the military.
