Varney initially assumed that the barcodes on all ballots were malfunctioning, but it turns out that only Republican ballots are being rejected.
When the issue will be resolved is unknown.
Meanwhile, election officials are gathering Republican ballots and storing them in the polling machines’ back rooms.
CBS Pittsburgh reported:
Several voters have contacted KDKA to say that their Republican ballots have been rejected.
The Fayette County Bureau of Elections has reported that machines in precincts in the county are failing to check bar codes on all ballots, for Republicans and Democrats alike.
Judge of Elections Chris Varney says they thought it was a problem with all ballots at first, but later discovered it was just a problem with Republican ballots.
Fayette County officials proposed collecting ballots from voters and storing them in the back of voting machines, but not scanning any of them to ensure the process was conducted fairly.
