What an embarrassment!
Democratic West, Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, had his head in his hands while the Senator majority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized the Republicans because the Senate passed the short-term debt ceiling increase!
Once the Republicans, among whom was Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, voted to lift a filibuster and let Dems extend the debt ceiling by $480 billion, Schumer slammed McConnell for causing the ‘’Republican-manufactured crisis.’’

In his speech, you can hear that he accused the Republicans of attempting to push the US over a cliff’s edge.
“Republicans played a dangerous and risky partisan game, and I am glad that their brinkmanship did not work,” Schumer stated. “Leader McConnell and Senate Republicans insisted they wanted a solution to the debt ceiling but said Democrats must raise it alone by going through a drawn-out, convoluted, and risky reconciliation process. That was simply unacceptable to my caucus. And yesterday, Senate Republicans finally realized that their obstruction was not going to work. I thank, very much thank my Democratic colleagues for showing our unity in solving this Republican-manufactured crisis.”

While Schumer was talking, Machin was behind him, holding his head in his hands, and then walked away. Later, he described this speech as ‘’f*cking stupid’’ and told the reporter he thought it was inappropriate.
Senate Minority Whip John Thune, together with Republican Maine Sen. Susan Collins, confronted Schumer on the Senate floor.
The short-term bill would prolong the US’s debt ceiling until December 3, avoiding a government default. Janet Yellen, the Treasury Secretary, stated that without the extension, the fed government couldn’t pay off its debt past October 18.
Democrats can use the budget reconciliation process to raise the debt ceiling unilaterally; however, they don’t want to do so.
