The entire family wanted to take a cable car tour of the alps, never imagining they’d be dead within minutes of boarding.

According to the New York Post, a five-year-old Israeli boy is the sole survivor of an Italian cable car accident that killed 14 people, including his parents and younger brother.

Officials said the young boy’s grandparents, Barbaria Cohen, 71, and Yithak Cohen, 81, died at the scene.

The grandparents had traveled from Tel Aviv to see the family in order to avoid the deadly confrontation between Israel and Hamas last week.

“Yitzhak and Barbara were looking forward to seeing their great-grandchildren. “What can happen in Italy?” they wondered as rockets fell in Israel. Aya Biran, the boy’s aunt, told the outlet.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated, but according to Stresa Mayor Marcella Severino, it appears that a cable on the device broke before the car collided with a pylon.

She told SkyTG24 in Italy, “It was a horrible, terrible scene.”

A 9-year-old child, as well as a doctor, Roberta Pistolato, 40, and her boyfriend, Angelo Gasparro, 45, are among the other victims, according to MetroUK.

Silvia Malnati, 27, and Alessandro Merlo, 29, an engaged couple, were also killed in the accident, according to the outlet.

The young boy is recovering in the hospital, but the most tragic aspect of the situation is that his entire immediate family was taken from him in the blink of an eye.

So depressing.
