Increased Number Of Breakthrough Cases And Deaths In Recent Months!

We advocate infections, hospitalizations, and deaths due to C-19 infection have increased in the past few months among the fully vaccinated people, shared the CDC. However, the bulk of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths happened among unvaccinated Americans.

C-19 infections pit of 100,000 fully vaccinated increased from 12.3 in late June to 121 in middle August. C-19 linked hospitalizations in that population increased from 98.9 per 100,000 to 75, and C-19 deaths have risen from 0.1 per 100,000 to 1.1.

Many studies showed that the coronavirus vaccine effectiveness is declining. The CDC data from surveillance systems in states and hospitals show another drop in protection.

“The marked pronounced change in vaccine effectiveness is likely due to emergence of the Delta variant as the dominant variant, and the waning of vaccine immunity over time,” Paul Alexander, a former Trump administration COVID-19 adviser who has a masters of science in clinical epidemiology and community health stated.

“The immunity from the vaccine drops markedly over the few months post-vaccine. The Delta is more infectious (yet far less lethal), but the real issue is a mismatch as the vaccine does not hit the Delta, so there is immune escape. It has effectively failed against the Delta, and the accumulated evidence shows this (UK, Israel, etc.). So once infections rise, there is usually a hospitalization curve and then a death curve that follows,” added Alexander.

The medical term for the hospitalization and new infections among the fully vaccinated population is “breakthroughs.”

There isn’t a 100% effective vaccine, and every one of them will eventually decline effectiveness. A breakdown of the CDC’s data by age shows that the breakthrough cases, hospitalizations, and deaths have risen in all groups.

Maryland officials contributed data on cases and deaths and stated they had seen an increase in deaths in the vaccinated population.

“Many of these deaths are linked to comorbidities that make patients more vulnerable. This further underscores our mission to maintain immunity by urging all eligible Marylanders to get their booster shots. Keep in mind that as the number of our residents who are vaccinated continues to increase, we expect to see an increase in the proportion of COVID-related deaths occurring in vaccinated individuals,” Andy Owen, deputy director for media relations, stated.

Only 295 out of 4 million fully vaccinated Marylanders have died of C-19. The waning effectiveness of the vaccines drove drug regulators and the CDC to authorize and recommend booster shots for Americans.

“Many of these deaths are linked to comorbidities that make patients more vulnerable. This further underscores our mission to maintain immunity by urging all eligible Marylanders to get their booster shots. Keep in mind that as the number of our residents who are vaccinated continues to increase, we expect to see an increase in the proportion of COVID-related deaths occurring in vaccinated individuals,” Dr. David Boulware, professor of medicine at the Uni. Of Minnesota’s Division of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine.

“This is achieved with a booster, which is why boosters are beneficial at >6 months. With boosters, I (and others) expect vaccine breakthrough infections to decrease greatly, and the emerging data support this,” Boulware said.
The information on breakthrough cases shows a drop in breakthrough cases at the end of August.

The bulk of the infections, hospitalizations, and deaths were among the unvaccinated population. The CDC stated that the data showed the unvaccinated people in August had a 6.1 times higher risk of getting infected for the C-19 and 11.3% higher risk of dying from C-19.
