A federal grand jury indicted all four ex-police officers from Minneapolis, that were involved in one of the most famous cases in whole American history.
The judgement for the others was “failing to administer first aid” to George Floyd, who was kneeled on his neck by officer Chauvin for more than 9 minutes.
According to the article published by The Hill,
“The multicount indictment from the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota accuses Chauvin along with Thomas Lane, J. Kueng and Tou Thao of violating Floyd’s constitutional rights. Additionally, Chauvin, Kueng and Thao are charged with violating Floyd’s right to be free from unreasonable seizure and excessive force.”
The report continues, stating that
“Chauvin was the first white police officer in Minnesota to be convicted of murdering a Black person, and many in the country saw the high-profile trial as a referendum on policing in the U.S.”
Many officers from the same unit testified during the case, including the city’s police chief, and their testimonies were against Derek Chauvin.
Might this be the case that will “move the needle on police reform”?
Floyd’s death was the ultimate trigger for the non so civilian but more political movement, going under the name of Black Lives Matter.
