Georgian star Nikoloz Basilashvili had no other option but to drop out of the Sydney Cup after struggling with breathing issues.
“During his match with Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, Basilashvili, who is only 29-years-old, had to call off the match and needed medical attention from a doctor and staff. Being number 22 in the world, many are wondering about his health condition as Basilashvili is believed to have gotten both doses of the COVID-19 jab due to it being mandated at the Premier Australian Open,” sports report wrote.
Having a 4-1 lead on him during the set, his opponent, Tsitsipas, was concerned about the early dropout, saying, “I don’t really know how is his health. It’s not easy playing when you’re not 100%. I completely understand his situation. It’s a shame there was no match today, but there will be doubles!”
At one point during the match, Basilashvili could be heard telling his team, “every shot, I’m out of breath.”
