(LifeSiteNews) – LA CROSSE, Wisconsin, July 8, 2021 – Father James Altman told LifeSiteNews that Bishop William Patrick Callahan of the Diocese of La Crosse issued him a FedEx message today informing him that he has been removed as pastor of St. James the Less parish and that his priestly faculties have been suspended.
Altman, whose viral “You Can’t Be a Catholic and a Democrat” video made him famous, has recently fought with his bishop. Altman told LifeSite at the end of June that he was about to be fired after Callahan urged him to resign.

Altman’s popularity has grown across the United States as Catholics become angry with the hierarchy’s failure to obey Church law and deny abortion-activist politicians Holy Communion in accordance with canon 915.
When a priest’s faculties are taken away, he can no longer offer public Mass in his native diocese or in another diocese. A priest who has had his faculties suspended is also not allowed to hear confessions or baptize individuals unless they are in imminent risk of death.
“It comes as no surprise to me that the hierarchy continues to attempt to silence a voice of Truth,” Altman told LifeSiteNews. “I speak the indisputable Truth, as [the] bishop stated openly. Unfortunately for the corrupt hierarchy, no arbitrary Decree will be able to silence me, and no action against my priestly faculties will be able to intimidate me. The Truth is not going to be silenced.”
According to a source on the ground, a secular reporter was stationed outside Altman’s parish today, implying that the reporter was aware of the suspension.
