FLASH BRIEFING: Jimmy Kimmel’s Karma Is Unbelievable

In recent years, late-night comedy shows have shifted their emphasis away from laughs and toward politics.
Late-night comedy hosts seem to have had a nervous breakdown after Trump announced his candidacy for president, and are now using their shows to vent their political frustrations.

Of course, this change in late-night programming has had a negative impact on ratings, as many hosts such as Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon have seen significant drops in viewership.
However, one newcomer to the scene, pro-tump comedian Greg Gutfeld, has recently surpassed both Kimmel and Fallon in terms of ratings.
According to Nielsen Media Research, Fox News host Greg Gutfeld’s latest late-night show recently outperformed conventional late-night broadcast shows “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
According to Nielsen reports, “Gutfeld!” averaged 1.6 million viewers in the week ending May 14, beating Kimmel on ABC and Fallon on NBC, but trailing CBS’s “Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
With 1.8 million viewers, May 13 was the Fox show’s best night so far, second only to Colbert’s show, which attracted 1.9 million viewers. In the main 25- to 54-year-old audience, Gutfeld’s show edged out Colbert by a hair.
After its April premiere, “Gutfeld!” has averaged 1.5 million viewers, behind Kimmel’s 1.6 million and Colbert’s 2 million but ahead of “The Tonight Show’s” 1.4 million.
