The New York Times’s Jonathan Martin and Alex Burns shared passages from their latest book, “This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future.”
The book says that the GOP House leader Kevin McCarthy told Liz Cheney that he would advise Trump to resign before the end of his term.

McCarthy’s spokesperson Mark Bednar refuted them, saying, “McCarthy never said he’d call Trump to say he should resign.”
The House Minority leader stated that these claims were false.
Rachel Maddow leaked one conversation on her show this Thursday night. It was a phone call between House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy and Liz Chaney from January 10, 2021.
McCarthy talked to a couple of GOP House leaders, including Liz Cheney, a third-in-line in the House Republican Caucus.
McCarthy told Cheney that he would tell Trump to resign.
Kevin McCarthy: “I think [impeachment resolutions] will pass, and it would be my recommendation you (President Trump) should resign… What he did is unacceptable. Nobody can defend that, and nobody should defend it.”
He also said that he thought Twitter and FB should delete accounts of lawmakers who support Trump and his claim of a rigged election.
“We can’t put up with that,” he said. “Can’t they take their Twitter accounts away, too?”
