Now, according to numerous reports, the cause of death of Brian Laundrie, the sole suspect in the death of his girlfriend Gabby Petito, has finally been revealed by a lawyer representing his family.
“Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was suicide,” attorney Steve Bertolino told The New York Post. “Chris and Roberta are still mourning the loss of their son and are hopeful that these findings bring closure to both families.”
Petito family lawyer Richard Stafford released a statement on Tuesday saying that his clients are aware of the suicide ruling. Still, federal prosecutors have told them that they should not release an official statement about it.
“The family was asked to not make any comments and let the FBI continue the investigation,” Stafford said. “The family was also asked to wait for the United States Attorney’s Office to make a determination on whether any additional individuals will be charged.”
“The manner of death was determined to be suicide by a forensic anthropologist. It is not clear at this time where Laundrie got the gun or if it was recovered from the scene where his body was discovered. Bertolino and the FBI did not respond to any more questions about the gun.”
