FBI Visits Matt Gaetz’s Wheelchair-Bound, Veteran Ex-Staffer Over Tip

Rep. Matt Gaetz’s former staffer held a press conference to debunk media reports that he was aware of accusations the Florida congressman engaged in criminal activity, which led to a visit from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
“There isn’t a single thing that could be further from the facts. “Neither I nor any of his staff is aware of any criminal activities,” Nathan Nelson said at a press conference in Florida on April 5th.

Despite claims from members of the media that his resignation from the office was related to Rep. Gaetz’s federal investigation, Nelson dismissed the claims as “baseless,” adding that he had intended to resign before the investigation and extortion scheme became public. These media rumors prompted two FBI agents to question Gaetz at his home about his suspected involvement in illegal activities, which the sources spun as the catalyst for Nelson’s resignation.
The Washington Times added, “Mr. Nelson said that because the details about his exit were wrongly published, he thinks the charges against Mr. Gaetz are also false.”
“This unfounded accusation against me confirms my belief that the charges against Congressman Gaetz are both false and an effort to smear a prominent conservative,” Nelson concluded.
