President Vladimir Putin has responded by demanding a live debate with Vice President Joe Biden after Biden called him a “killer.”
According to The Daily Mail, Biden decided to show what a tough man he is by slamming Russian President Vladimir Putin this week, and Putin has responded in kind.
Putin said of Biden, “I would say to him: I wish you good health.” “I don’t say that ironically or as a joke.”
Putin was apparently alerted to Biden’s remark and challenged him to a live debate as soon as Friday.
Putin stated, ”
I’d like to recommend to President Biden that we continue our debate, but only on the condition that we do it in real time. Without any pauses and in an open, direct conversation. It appears to me that this would be of interest to the people of Russia and the United States.”
“I don’t want to put this off any longer than necessary. This weekend, I’d like to go to the taiga to unwind. So it’s possible that we’ll do it tomorrow or Monday. For the American side, we are available at any moment that is handy for them.”
“You know, when we were kids and we were arguing in the courtyard, we used to say, ‘I know who you are, but who am I?’ That isn’t by chance. It isn’t just a childish remark. That has a profound significance.”
According to the Daily Mail:
The remarks come after the White House has spent weeks signaling a tougher stance toward Russia under a Biden administration, and Moscow has rebuffed allegations that it is a “malign” influence in global affairs once again.
‘Our administration will take a different approach in our relationship with Russia than the previous administration,’ White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a Wednesday briefing, referring to Biden’s comments in the ABC News interview.
A stunning new assessment by US intelligence lays out Russia’s campaign to sway the 2020 elections, just days after the Treasury Department slapped sanctions on Russian officials in retaliation for the poisoning of opposition figure Alexei Navalny with a chemical agent. The head of Russia’s foreign intelligence service, the FSB, was among those sanctioned.
And the remarks are the latest example of the new Biden team attempting to differentiate itself from former President Donald Trump, who repeatedly praised Putin and even appeared to side with him when denying allegations of election meddling.
