On Sunday, President Joe Biden’s Chief Medical Advisor, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said it is ‘possible’ that Americans may have to wear masks as a safeguard against coronavirus spreading by 2022.
During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Fauci made his remarks.

Fauci indicated that a remnant of the past might be “normality.”
Dr. Fauci says that it's "possible" that Americans will be wearing masks in 2022.

Fauci:’ It depends on what normality means to you.’
“You and the president have suggested that we approach normality towards the end of the year,” Host Dana Bash told Fauci. What’s meant by normal? ”
“Then Bash asked point blank: “Do you think Americans are still going to wear masks in 2022, for instance? ”
Fauci said, “You know, I think it’s possible that this is the case.” It depends on what normality means to you.’
Said Bash, “Right.” That is why I want it to be defined by you.’
It’s important because if normality means exactly how things were before we had it happen to us, I mean, I can’t predict it,” Fauci said.”
It seemed that the doctor thought the worst was behind us.
I mean, obviously, I think we’re going to have a significant degree of normality beyond what the horrible burden we’ve all been through over the last year when we get into the fall and the winter by the end of the year,” said Fauci.”
Fauci was quoted today as saying we will return to normal in 2022. Which is weird because Florida returned to normal 6 months ago, and their outcomes are just as good as places that didn't return to normal. Maybe we should just return to normal & let people make their own choices

I fully agree with the president that we will be reaching a degree of normality,” he added.” In November 2019, it may or may not be exactly the way it was, but much, much better than what we are doing right now.
On the issue of 2022, Bash pushed again, “Why do you think Americans might have to wear masks by 2022?” ”
“You know, because it depends on the level of virus dynamics in the community, Fauci replied, and that’s really important because that gets back to something, again, you said, if you see the level really, really very low coming down.”
“I want it to keep going down to a baseline that is so low that there is virtually no threat,” he added.
“It will never be zero, but you will be exposed to someone who is infected with a minimal, minimal, minimal threat,” Fauci said.
Fauci said it was important to have as many individuals vaccinated as possible.
So if you pair having most of the people vaccinated in the country with getting the virus level very, very low in the population, then I think you’re going to be able to say, you know, for the most part, we don’t really have to wear masks, but if we have a virus level that is at the level that it was like 20,000 per day months and months ago, it’s a hell of much better than it is.
