Dozens of House Democrats are calling on President Biden to give up full authority over the nation’s nuclear arsenal and the right to use such missiles to launch an attack.
Politico notes that a letter was written by the Democrats, led by Rep. Jimmy Panetta (CA) and Rep. Ted Lieu (CA), warning that “taking one individual” with the ability to start a nuclear war “provides real risks.”

“While presumably any president would consult with advisors before ordering a nuclear attack, there is no need to do so,” the letter states.
“The military is required to execute the order if they determine that it is legal under the laws of war,” they say. “That attack would take place in minutes under the current posture of the U.S. nuclear forces.”

Why do Democrats call on Biden to relinquish sole nuclear arms control?
Politico reports that the Democrats in the nuclear command-control structure are seeking to curtail the president’s influence. But is it just about taking Biden’s power or making sure that former President Trump will never ever have that authority?
Clearly, the letter’s wording is a veiled shot at Trump.
“Past presidents have threatened to attack other countries with nuclear weapons or demonstrated conduct that has caused other officials to express concern about the president’s judgment,” it reads.
The footnotes in the picture above refer very explicitly to Trump’s supposed “threat” to nuclear North Korea, who left open the possibility of running again in 2024.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi admitted after the Capitol riot in early January that she had talked with Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley about stopping Trump from obtaining nuclear codes.
She spoke to Milley about “available precautions to prevent an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or accessing launch codes and ordering a nuclear strike,” Pelosi said.

There are, of course, those who see the story of Democrats seeking to take away Biden’s absolute power over the nuclear arms of the nation and come to a different conclusion.

Former President Trump indicated that a drive by Pelosi last October to review the 25th Amendment was never directed at him, but at Biden instead.
“In order to replace Joe Biden with Kamala Harris, Crazy Nancy Pelosi is looking at the 25th Amendment,” he said.
Joe’s not in any state to be an applicant. He said, “We can say it nicely or we can say it badly.” “The 25th amendment with which crazy Nancy is playing around-gone she’s insane, she’s a nut job-but I think they put it in this 25th amendment so they can get Kamala in.”
