However, this time, after Andrew Cuomo stated he is not willing to resign his position, a group of the top Democratic lawmakers decided to come together and combine their allegations, questioning Cuomo’s ability to lead the state, or to be a part of the lawmaking process at the current time.
State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, a Democrat, called one of her own to quit his position, stating he is “drawing away from the business of government.”
And she’s totally on the right path!
“We have allegations about sexual harassment, a toxic work environment, the loss of credibility surrounding the Covid-19 nursing home data, and questions about the construction of a major infrastructure project,” she stated
“New York is still in the midst of this pandemic and is still facing the societal, health, and economic impacts of it,” she followed. “We need to govern without daily distraction. For the good of the state, Governor Cuomo must resign.”
State Sen. Liz Krueger, a prominent Democrat from Manhattan, also joined this group, stating that “Our state is rightly crying out for the truthful, transparent government. The people’s business is too pressing to continue to be derailed in this way.”
All of these stormy reactions came after Cuomo announced he is not planning to resign, as well as that he thinks that the politicians who are calling him to do this are “anti-democratic”. He said that he is not planning to resign, even more, because, under his leadership, the administration is helping the state to recover from the pandemic crisis.
But, the sexual harassment allegations are just increasing – there are two new allegations, similar to the previous ones!
Ana Liss, a 35-year-old, who used to be a policy and operations aide to Cuomo in the period between 2013 and 2015, claimed that Cuomo used to grab her by the waist, kiss her in the cheek occasionally and hug her without any occasion.
Hinton, who also worked as a press aide for Cumo, made a similar statement for the NBC New York, claiming that once she was summoned in his hotel room, and when she said no, he started pulling her inside when she had to use increased force to pull away from him.
Rich Azzopardi, Cuomo’s adviser stated that “Reporters and photographers have covered the governor for 14 years watching him kiss men and women and posing for pictures. At the public open house mansion reception, there are hundreds of people and he poses for hundreds of pictures. That’s what people in politics do.”
I don’t know if all these women are chasing the path of fame and publicity, but the truth will be soon discovered after the trials begin.
