Not only did CBS’ flagship news show “60 Minutes” take a cheap shot at Ron DeSantis and miss, but the shoddy hit piece broadcast on CBS’ flagship news program backfired so badly that even CNN had to admit it.
The governor of Florida seems to be a serious Republican presidential candidate in 2024. Now that his leadership during the COVID crisis has established itself as the gold standard for the nation, he has been singled out by the media in an effort to stifle his progress.

When airing the deceptively edited smear job, “60 Minutes” obviously believed they could damage DeSantis’ national profile. They sloppily implied that he had a pay-for-play vaccine distribution contract with the Publix grocery store chain. Their effort to make the governor famous went viral, but not in the way they had hoped.
When confronted by reporters, DeSantis came out swinging, tearing into “60 Minutes” over the deceptive clip: “They took out everything that proved that their story was a piece of horse manure,” he said.
Ron DeSantis is on another level.

On CBS, the tables were easily turned. According to CNN’s Chris Cillizza, this gave a “big gift” to a man who might be a shoo-in for the Republican nomination if former President Donald J. Trump declines to run.

“It was a passing mention, without any other evidence or background to back it up,” Cillizza said of CNN competitor’s shoddy work. “The insinuation here, however, was pretty plain. Publix was negotiating with the state to administer vaccinations, and the company’s PAC had made this gift to the governor,” and that, “the insinuation here, however, was pretty clear.” Because of the donation, Publix was awarded this state contract. It is necessary to pay in order to participate. Favoritism is a term that has been used to describe a situation That sort of thing.”
He then brought up a major flaw in the piece, namely that it had been condemned by two influential Florida Democrats. “The issue is that, in the aftermath of the “60 Minutes” study, a number of Democratic elected officials have come out to refute the connection between the donation and Publix’s vaccine distribution.
“The producers knew that the county, not the governor, had requested the Publix partnership,” Cillizza wrote. Palm Beach County Mayor Dave Kerner, a Democrat, said the news show had run “intentionally false” facts because, he said, “the producers knew that the county, not the governor, had requested the Publix partnership”.

“The study — and the outcry — amount to a huge gift to DeSantis as he looks to his reelection campaign next year and, he hopes, a 2024 bid for the Republican presidential nomination,” Cillizza concluded.
CBS and “60 Minutes” were undeterred, so there are never any repercussions in the media when it comes to lying to the American people.
“For more than 50 years, the facts published by 60 MINUTES have often sparked debate and elicited intense reactions,” according to a statement. Our Sunday night story speaks for itself.”
The story can speak for itself, but so does DeSantis’ uncut footage.
