Cher Accused of Having ‘White Savior Complex’ for Taking Credit for George Floyd

Cher is facing backlash on social media after making an ill-advised remark about George Floyd’s death, implying that she “could’ve saved” if she had been present.
Cher is now being accused of having a “white savior complex,” which refers to white people’s assumption that they can fix issues for minorities. Late Friday, the 74-year-old pop star and actress tweeted that she told her mother, “I Kept Thinking…..Maybe If I’d Been There,…I Could’ve Helped”:

Her tweet was immediately met with ridicule and allegations of a white savior complex, with some advising her to delete it:
@cher I say this with respect:

Cher slammed Georgia’s new voter integrity legislation this week, alleging falsely that the law denies black Americans the right to vote. She also referred to Republicans as “evil” and “bigots.”
During the 2020 presidential race, Cher was one of Joe Biden’s most ardent backers in Hollywood. The singer played at virtual fundraisers and also campaigned for the nominee in Nevada.
Cher seemed to respond to the backlash her Floyd tweet sparked on Saturday.
Wrestled With This Twt, Because I Thought some ppl wouldn’t understand, Or Believe an Entertainer Could have Honest emotions about a human Being, suffering & Dying, even if It’s Only Shown On tv. You Don’t Know What I’ve Done,Who I Am,Or What I Believe.I CAN,I HAVE,& I WILL..HELP
