Thomas can be heard saying in an undercover video released by Project Veritas, “I would break up Facebook, which means I would probably make less money — but I don’t care.” As if that’s exactly what needs to be done. Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Oculus, and WhatsApp all need their own companies. When they’re all one, there’s too much power.”
“No king in the history of the world has been the ruler of two billion people, but Mark Zuckerberg is — and he’s 36,” Thomas said of Mark Zuckerberg’s influence. For a 36-year-old, that’s just too many. You should not be in charge of a population of two billion people. That, I believe, is incorrect.”
“Most people don’t understand these stuff and most people don’t care about them — which is why a lot of shit goes down because a lot of people aren’t paying attention,” Thomas said, adding that Facebook gets away with too much because most people lack a general understanding of how the business works.
“There’s often built-in [algorithmic] bias,” Thomas said while discussing the topic of algorithmic bias.
What’s more, guess what? The code was written by humans.” “We’re re-looking at the algorithms, but it’s such a huge and complex thing that it takes time to solve it,” he said, explaining why the problem has persisted for so long. I believe we can move faster, but doing so would cost a lot of money.
“One of the things I worked on, which made me proud, was a voter registration campaign,” Thomas said, adding that he thinks Facebook’s voter registration drive is one of the reasons Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election. These are the sorts of stuff you can find on Facebook’s positive side. This is the type of thing that can only be done by an organization with the size and scope of Facebook. We set a goal of registering four million new people, but we exceeded the goal, registering 4.5 million people.”
“Wow,” says the Project Veritas journalist. Thomas answered, “It’s a lot, registering 4.5 million voters.” “Yeah,” the journalist said, referring to Biden. That’s how I believe he [Biden] won. “How do you feel about it?” “Exactly, I believe so as well,” Thomas replied.
