BREAKING: AOC Requests Cuomo To Resign

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) became the first Democrat legislator to criticize Governor Andrew Cuomo (D), claiming that he “must resign” in the wake of several women accusing him of sexual assault.

“After two reports of sexual abuse, four allegations of harassment, and an investigation by the Attorney General that showed the Governor’s office withheld nursing home data from the legislature and the public, we agree with the 55+ members of the New York State legislature that the Governor must resign,” Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Jamaal Bowman said in a joint statement (D-NY).

The new sexual assault allegations raise “concerns about the current safety and well-being of the administration workforce,” according to the release, which describes the allegations as “consistent and highly-detailed.”

“Unfortunately, the Governor is not only facing charges that he participated in a pattern of sexual abuse and assault,” Ocasio-Cortez and Bowman wrote, referencing the attorney general’s “extensive report… that showed the Cuomo administration withheld data on COVID-19 nursing home deaths from both the public and the state legislature.”

Cuomo was forced to resign after more than half of the New York State legislature demanded that he do so immediately. Cuomo “has lost the confidence of the public and the state legislature, making him ineffective in this moment of greatest need,” according to a letter signed by 59 Democratic New York state legislators on Thursday.

They added, “We have a Lieutenant Governor who can step in and lead for the remainder of the term, and this is what is best for New Yorkers at this crucial moment.” “Governor Cuomo has to step down.”

Even New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has weighed in, telling reporters on Thursday that Cuomo “can no longer serve” as governor.

Cuomo has steadfastly declined to resign as governor, telling lawmakers that they will have to impeach him.
