Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Lohmeier of the Space Force was relieved of command earlier this week after he appeared on a podcast and questioned critical race theory and “diversity and inclusion” policies imposed on the US military by the Biden administration. Now, 24 Republican House members have signed a letter criticizing the Biden administration and the military for their decision.

The letter began, “We write to you out of grave concern for what appears to be an increasingly politicized climate emerging in the Department of Defense, which has recently manifested itself in the United States Space Force.”
“In particular, we are worried about Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Lohmeier’s dismissal from command following two podcasts in which he discussed his latest book.” According to the Space Force, Lohmeier was fired for opposing Marxist critical race theory, and an investigation is underway.
The letter exclaims, “Based on the interviews themselves, these comments by a Space Force spokesperson appear completely disconnected from reality.” “According to his interviews, he brought up questions raised in his book and on the podcast with his chain of command and the Air Force.

Breaking 🚨 I led a letter with 23 of my @HouseGOP colleagues regarding the mistreatment of Lt. Col. Lohmeier & the rising threat of Marxist based, critical race theory in the military. Our military should focus on national security threats, not woke political ideology. #CRT pic.twitter.com/3wBtbCU6B0

The letter goes on to name a number of other active duty military officers and senior enlisted leaders who have used “much more politicized voice” than Lohmeier. General David L. Goldfein, the Air Force Chief of Staff, recently said, “Every American should be outraged that the behavior demonstrated by police in Minneapolis can still happen in 2020,” referring to the death of George Floyd. The letter also cites numerous comments made by active-duty service members criticizing Tucker Carlson after he made remarks critical of the Biden administration’s proposal to develop “maternity flight suits,” presumably so pregnant women can travel.
“No steps were taken against any of these senior leaders who publicly, in uniform, and from official Department of Defense accounts lambasted a private U.S. Citizen for expressing an opinion about defense policy that varied from official DOD policy,” the letter continues. “ The headline “Press Secretary Smites Host Who Dissed Diversity in US Military” is still prominently displayed on the official Department of Defense website.
“In the end, there seems to be no discernible distinction between many senior leaders’ very public comments made while in uniform and on official social media pages, and those made by Lietenant Colonel Lohmeier in an unofficial capacity.
