Lt. Kathy Hochul will be the first female governor after Cuomo’s humiliating resignation. She is sixty-two years old, and she is a member of the Congress from Upstate NY.
“I agree with Governor Cuomo’s decision to step down. It is the right thing to do and in the best interest of New Yorkers,” Kathy Hochul said. “As someone who has served at all levels of government and is next in the line of succession, I am prepared to lead as New York State’s 57th Governor.”

On Tuesday, Cuomo announced his resignation. He killed thousands of older adults from NY because he sent COVID-19 infected people to the nursing homes. Also, he was forced out over sexual harassment allegations.
“The best way I can help now is if I step aside and let the government get back to governing,” Cuomo said. “And that’s what I’ll do….”
Cuomo added, “My resignation will be effective in 14 days.”
