A State Senator From Arizona Has Been Arrested on Allegations of child Molestation

Otoniel “Tony” Navarrete, an Arizona state representative, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly having sexual contact with a juvenile. Multiple accusations of sexual contact with a juvenile have been leveled against the Democrat from Phoenix dating back to 2019.
According to 3TV/CBS 5, Navarrete is facing further accusations in addition to the charges of sexual activity with a minor.

Democratic state senators issued a statement in response to the arrest, stating they were aware of it and were awaiting more information.
“We are aware that one of our members has been arrested and are awaiting further details as well as the completion of the investigation by law enforcement,” the statement stated. “At this moment, we have no more comment.”

According to the Arizona Capitol Times, more information on Navarrete’s charges will be released on Friday.
Navarrete, 35, has been a member of the state senate since 2019 and previously served in the House of Representatives, representing Legislative District 30. He is also the deputy director of Promise Arizona, a community-based NGO.
His arrest comes after he announced last week that despite being vaccinated, he tested positive for COVID-19.
