This Thursday the U.S Border Patrol agents released a statement, which confirmed the tragic death of a young 9-year-old child, who was trying to cross the border over the Rio Grande river.
“U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to Del Rio Sector’s Marine Unit rescued two migrants attempting to cross the Rio Grande, Mar. 20.” The agents came across three migrants who were “stranded on an island on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande River. Agents found the individuals and immediately began administering first aid while transporting the migrants to shore. Two of the three migrants regained consciousness, a mother from Guatemala and her three-year-old child from Mexico.”
Though the agents have tried saving her life, the child remained unresponsive and was later pronounced deceased, after being passed to the Eagle Pass Fire Department’s Emergency Medical Services.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of this small child,” stated Del Rio Sector Chief Patro,l Agent Austin L. Skero II. “During these hard times our agents remain resilient, and I am extremely proud of their efforts to preserve human life.”
