“I’m at a loss for words.” Where did we go wrong that a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old think it’s OK to fight the cops?” He expressed himself.

The children broke away from their group home at Florida United Methodist Children’s Home (FUMCH) at 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to Chitwood, and eluded police for many hours.

According to Chitwood, the 14-year-old girl came out of the house and threatened to kill Sgt. Donnie Maxwell.

“To de-escalate the situation, we throw a cell phone inside the house and try to communicate with them.” The 14-year-old walks out of the garage with a pump shotgun, aims it at deputies, and then walks back into the garage, disregarding warnings to drop it. When she returns a second time, deputies open fire,” Chitwood explained.
